Dave,
Don Parker sure sounds like a good person to consult about the BusLogic SCSI
adapter. I always like to get information from someone who has actually
used a product. I'll fire off a message to him.
I didn't know anything about the Orchid card. Sounds worth investigating.
I think I'll wait until NT hits the streets before making a move on the
video system. I expect device support in NT will be thin at first, and want
to be sure I get something supported in the first cut.
All this may be moot, though, if Novell or MS or somebody doesn't get busy
and produce Netware workstation software for NT that supports a wide range
of network cards. I won't be able to run NT until I can connect my NT
workstation to our Netware 3.11 network, using my SMC network card. Right
now, that's not supported by Novell's requester software. MS is saying it's
up to Novell to handle this. My guess is that Novell is _not_ anxious for
NT to be successful, and will drag their feet as long as possible. If they
do that, they'll make me even more mad at them than I already am.
I just got back from the MS seminar/announcement of NT. Unfortunately
I missed the CCTV of Bill Gates from Comdex, but others said he mostly
talked about very big company uses of NT. The only real news seems to have
been that MS intends to ship NT within 60 days, and there was no mention of
another beta release. There were a few exhibits by various vendors, which
were interesting. I talked to one guy who has developed SQL server software
for NT on multi-processor machines. Very slick. Only time will tell how
all this shakes out.
Back to the wars. No "irony or sarcasm" here. <g>
