Craig: That may be true. I do know, however, that QEMM gives a lot more power and flexibility than even DOS 6's HIMEM.SYS/EMM386.EXE combination. For instance: * Add "FRAME=NONE FEMS" to your QEMM command line to disable the EMS Page Frame (thus freeing up 64K of UMBs!), WHILE KEEPING VCPI SUPPORT for 3DS and other VCPI programs! While the DOS 6 EMM386.EXE is supposed to do the same thing via "FRAME=NONE", it doesn't seem to work well, even when I DON'T use MEMMAKER. * Allow upwards of 720K conventional RAM by adding "VREMS" (or "VREGA" if you don't mind that extra memory being slow VGA memory rather than being filled in from faster motherboard memory, though VREGA will give you an extra 96K of VCPI, which MAY mean the difference between a particularly large project having to swap or not during rendering…). You can turn this feature on or off on the fly by typing VIDRAM ON or VIDRAM OFF. Of course, while on, you can't use EGA, VGA, or SVGA graphics, but you can still use CGA graphics and any text mode, including extended text modes (80×50, 132×60, 160×100, etc.)! Since 3DS doesn't need much in the way of conventional memory to load and run, turning VIDRAM OFF before 3DS2 isn't much of an inconvenience (heck, a .BATch file can do it!), yet you can now get more conventional RAM for text or CGA programs that need it! * Many other options which can maximize the amount of VCPI available — especially nice for machines dedicated mostly to 3DS2 and ANI Pro. For instance, if you know you won't be using Windows 3 on that machine, add "NW3" to the QEMM line to get an extra K of conventional memory. If you aren't using any multitasker, you can do "MAPS=0 TA=1" to further gain VCPI and conventional memory.
