The February Byte articles were a landmark of CD-R research. If anyone asks me
about CD-R I always refer them to this issue as "The CD-R Bible". All of the
articles are still the most current in the field.
The only update I can think of is that the CD-Studio by Young Minds(Reviewed
Feb'93, BYTE) is now available with a GUI interface for MS-DOS. This is a
software-hardware solution for CD-ROM premastering and CD-R creation.
One of the driving forces in this field is the price of blank media. At the
SIGCAT meeting in Gaithersberg, MD the lowest price for a 60 minute blank was
$28.00. The concensus of opinion amongst the vendors is that the price of
media will drop to $5-$10 by December '93. This is due the fact that many
companies are now manufacturing the media where only two were in existance last
year.
