Hi Paul, SCSI 2 is a "superset" of SCSI 1… that is, it's a revised version of the SCSI standard that corrects some problems that happened when people tried to push SCSI-1 to it's limits. Basically it has a higher transfer rate, possible through different "transfer modes" that weren't in the SCSI-1 standard, but there's a number of nifty features that were implemented with SCSI-2. However, the CDR-74 that's sitting on my desk isn't a SCSI-2 device, so it wouldn't be able to take advantage of any of those features… SCSI-1 will still plod along at it's own pace with a SCSI-2 controller, because the device needs to be designed with SCSI-2 compliance. However, I don't have any information about the CDR 74-1… maybe it's SCSI-2?
