Rob,
I took the final step in configuring my system before trying to add the SCSI
stuff. I removed the partition from my 360 Mb IDE drive. I had to call a
friend before I could get the drive to format after repartitioning it. He
pulled out the DOS book! <g> I tried to SYS the drive then format it, but it
would only work with the /S switch in the FORMAT command. This guy has a sign
RTFM on his office wall. By golly, he practices what he preaches.
My interest in computing is what I can do with it, not how you get it to do it!
I am about to loose all of my remaining marbles when it comes to graphics
adapter cards. I was zeroing in on an Orchid P9000/VLB, but the literature
they sent me contains a review saying their drivers aren't finished. I called
Diamond about their VIPER VL and they said I should buy it frome a store that
has a good return policy, as it might not work with my off shore motherboard.
AAaarrrgggg!!! (Haven't I said that recently?)
Remodelling my house wouldn't help shorten SCSI cable lengths. Im set up in a
living room with plenty of space. The space constraint is how I arrange stuff
around me. If I could sit in a Yoga position the cable length problem would go
away. I'll send you a .BMP of my setup when this all (strike 'all') settles
down.
I followed the threads in NT up until the March beta was released. Then it
seemed that my system was too limited in resources to bother with it. Now that
I'm building it up it's time to eavesdrop again. I think I'll do that from
work. (Yes, they got me a CIS account there!) I met Bob Chronister in the
Micrografx section of the GRAPHVEN forum. (Hi, Bob <g>!) We've been discussing
MGX Picture Publisher and graphics adapter cards. I'll check with him in
WINNT.
If you meet Bob in WINNT, give him a <cg>, which is a Chronister grin- fast
becoming famous on the service!
I read a message where a guy gained a lot of disk space dropping partition size
from really big to under 512K partitions. He said he went from 16K sectors to
8K ones and gained 50 Mb on a 1.2 Gb drive. Another guy said the sector size
was 32k at 1 Gb. ???
I have a BIG dilemma. To use the BusLogic adapter with a SCSI hard drive where
there is an IDE boot drive in the system, I either have to disable the adapter
BIOS or not. The BT-445S book and three users tell me to keep the BIOS
enabled. BusLogic tech support in writing, however, says to disable the BIOS.
I'm going with the numbers.
I would advise scanning the horizon, but with the clouds and rain you're
sending this way, I think it would be obscured! <g>
