It's not shareware, but does a great job… Video for Windows' VidEdit will open an AVI file and extract whole or any section of the file into sequential DIB files. Then use Animator Pro NumPic to Load Pics as Flic. If Anipro doesn't recognize the DIBs, you will have to use an image converter (like Image Alchemy/Hijack/etc) to make the DIBs into PCXs or GIFs or whatever.
