Tongue in cheek, no – incredulous, yes.
The other day, a journalist called me for quotes regarding the demise of
Commodore… I had two. One, I was surprised at the number of people who were
shocked by the news. I thought this news was inevitable, and I'd "gotten over
it" about three years ago. Yes, I was sad when the writing was on the wall.
Now? It's like hearing that your favorite movie star died three years ago.
Still sad, but not the best time to write that final fan letter.
Two, I remarked that I thought there would be more Amiga developers than
ever… this was based on a post of mine you might've seen here a week or two
ago. Far too many Amiga fans have a "rescue the princess" mentality. Now that
Commodore is dead, there are people out there who will be more motivated than
ever to develop for the Amiga, to help "save her." I think Jim's post was a
fine example of this. Even if Emplant is/was successful, I don't think he's
made enough money to cover CBM's debt, revive the patient, and have enough left
over to "live forever without having to work again."
