Just because technology gets superceded doesn't mean that people who bought it "wasted their money". They had the use of it before the superceding technology arrived, and if it's still doing the job adequately for them, then they'll keep it despite the fact that it's been superceded by new offerings. Bear in mind that the Amiga was "superceded" also, from 1000 to 500 and 2000, to 2500 to 3000 and then 4000. The 4000 is a vastly more capable machine than the A1000 but that doesn't mean that those who bought the 1000 wasted their money.
