Something just occured to me… anyone here ever hear of a company called Applied Electronics? They manufactured over 600,000 of the C64's, (as well as 70% of all of Texas Instruments calculators, GemStar's VCR Plus, and a zillion other things that go whiz bang and pop) are a major OEM electronics giant in the consumer goods arena and have been exploding their sales by marketing products under the brand name Quorum (Quorum International, Inc. a susidiary of Applied based in Phoenix, incorporated just 2.5 years ago, now doing $250 mil/yr). Applied is cash rich (no debt) and has a market capitalization of over $400 mil. Follow the money folks. <g> Quorum has just opened up its European offices in Holland, Belgium and Paris (after a $75 million successful bond issue last year that oversold by 25%) and is slotted to open for business in Germany, Spain, Italy and Australia this year and/or next. Would be an interesting fit indeed based on what sj has cited about these C= companies being distribution companies, not manufacturing. For anyone who is interested, Applied International Holdings is a publicly traded company on the Hong kong exchange, and was listed in Money Magazine's December issue as being "the hottest stock in the world" up 617% in 1993 (as well as the November Forbes). Applied also owns a company called Applied Electronics Limited that is based, guess where? Yup. The Bahamas. <g> note: pure conjecture, 100% speculation, period. <g>
