Wanna hear a stranger rumor than that?…
Al Haig and one of the other directors are sitting at lunch in a res-
taurant somewhere (for some reason my "informant" didn't know if this was
in Nassau or NYC), speaking in low tones but apparently discussing the
future of the Amiga; "I'm in charge" Haig, never known for his subtlety,
at one point cackles, "We're gonna kick his a** all the way back to Wash-
ington," loudly enough that there's no mistaking the words.
My informant promptly draws the conclusion (although it _was_ implied
that there was plenty to conclude from) that Haig was referring to kicking
Bill Gates's booty back to Redmond, Washington! The scenario is: Haig
takes some kind of personal affront to MicroSoot making all these inroads
into video and such, so they're going to blitz the CD32 onto the US market
(the "media blitz" has also been suggested by other high C= employees, but
not recently), and then after Christmas the next ad-campaign will be,
"That toy you just bought? It also makes a really-neat home computer" …
and supposedly this is going to break MicroSlop's stranglehold on the
personal-computer market….
I wish I knew what kind of drugs my "informant" was using…. _General_
Haig couldn't _possibly_ have been talking about someone in Washington DC,
now _could_ he? (Assuming, of course, that _any_ of this actually
happened; it was one of those Bigfoot-sighting-type "a guy I know told me"
routines….
I must admit, I haven't heard anything _quite_ so strange out here….
