modelbox do this all the time. I visualise a large number of West End s
Industrials, and have had lighting designers such as David Hersey working in
the office on show visualisations. We have a renderfarm and frame animate to
CRV Laserdisc. I am shortly going to visualise all the scene changes for the
new Cameron Mackintosh production of Oliver at the London Palladium. (Blah
blah…) We have an extensive wishlist with regard to 3D Studio, to enable
better reproduction of theatre and performance lighting, most of which centre
around programming lighting cues, operating lights in groups, translating real
colour filters to RGB values, allowing for colour temperature changes as lights
dim, operating groups of lights, reproducing light effects in smoke and vapours
and dealing with moving lights. We have work-arounds for most of these, and
have just downloaded the IPAS Jonas mentioned, but we would love to talk to any
enterprising IPAS programmers out there who feel they could help. We produce a
lighting design add-on for AutoCAD at present – called AutoLight and may well
be interested in backing a 3D Studio-based lighting design package if it had
sufficient features. I look forward to hearing from you…
