Jochen, If you have a disk sector editor, and know what you're doing…you can force the disk to become validated. But that's not generally a good idea unless you know for sure that nothing is wrong. Normally, on bootup, the Amiga…seeing a disk isn't validated…will try to validate it. On a large HD, with a lot of files that can take awhile. But if after the Amiga attempts to validate…it can't, then there is *something* wrong. The best thing to do is backup the disk, reformat it and restore the files. Yes, that's a real pain in the backside…especially with a large HD and only floppies to use to back it up. If you choose that option…make SURE that you have whatever disks and programs are necessary to restore the HD after a format! I've known folks who backed up to a tape, reformatted the disk and then discovered that the software needed to read the tape and restore the drive is not in the floppy based software collection! Don
