WfW upgrades
For many months, I'd been running the Windows for Workgroups v3.1 that I bought
from Gateway. Then I installed Win32s from the Visual C 32-bit CD. Then I
heard about Windows v3.11 and downloaded it from the Exec PC BBS. I installed
that without a hitch. Then I tried to install the TCP/IP stack for Windows for
Workgroups. The installation instructions described a different set of dialogs
than I had on my system. The docs made it sound more like WinNT's dialogs,
with separate levels for more layering of network protocols, but I was able to
have the TCP/IP protocol appear in the list. I restarted, but never saw the
init and config dialogs described in the docs… so no TCP/IP.
I've sent in all the registration cards, but never received a formal offer from
Microsoft for WfW 3.11.
I'd like to get a real upgrade. My company does Win32s and WinNT development,
but we've never subscribed to the TechNet or MSDN CDs. We do have one or two
of these around the office. Someone told me that they contain upgrades to
Windows and WfW. Do they?
