I followed the same route you did for DOS 2.1, except that I had 2.0
installed. I have several megs of RAM but only one of chip RAM, and in any
event I don't think memory is your problem as the loader probably just makes
maximum use of what you have.
Did you boot from the Amiga 2.1 install disk?
You need files in the s (scripts, especially startup-sequence) system, libs
(subroutine libraries), tools, c (binary line commands like 'list' and
'avail'), devs (device cofigurations), and l (device handlers) directories at
least. Other important directories are fonts, tools/commodities, and many I
can't think of now as my 500 is in Virginia.
You might try buying a set of manuals from someone else. I asked and got a
few offers myself. My copy is probably sitting in my mailbox right now.
Can you boot from the Amiga 2.1 Workbench disk? I sure hope so. You
should have Install, Extras, fonts, locales, and Workbench disks. If not, call
Grapevine.
