In the meantime, it may be possible to take these alerts literally – that 3DS has instructions to use something like a read-only location to create a file – perhaps your temporary files are directed to a CD-ROM drive or a network drive for which you don't have the correct permissions. I would try something like renaming the 3DS.SET file which is in the old installation of 3DS3, then copying the new 3DS.SET file from the installation which works. Look in the 3DS.SET file for a TEMP-PATH="temp" setting which might be set up wrong. Go through the 3DS.SET file and look for all the places where directories are specified (in the DISK PATH section). For instance, TEMP-PATH="D:\TEMP" might have been specified, and might be a reference to an incorrect or non-existant location. Nik
