David, yes, your history is somewhat different to mine and probably preferable to many. However, I don't crave a stable, salaried, permanent position in a company since I find it very stifling. The most I can stand is usually a 6-9 month contract and then I'll be itching to look for something else to keep up the interest level. I did find it really hard to make a living off small ( <1 month) video projects, then the games came along with their longer time frames. If I can stay busy with game contracts then things could be a lot worse 🙂
