I don't actually know what Checkfree is but I know that some PC (and Mac?)
programs can call to get balance information, charges assessed, interest,
that sort of thing – and also interact with some banks' check-writing
programs – so that a lot of banking tasks are automated. It's a
tremendously useful feature.
