Over time, I suspect companies are going to have to bite the bullet and recognize that the profits they have become acustomed to are just not going to be there any more. The really great profits of the 80s are gone maybe never to return. The usual response is that they will have to quit business, but what then (for them)? What they (the owners) really need is to begin scaling back their own standard of living; their own money requirements. Moving over to the PC market won't make it either because those folks are in the same boat. Competition is still where its at; drop the price and sell more product.
