Mac programs reportedly don't show impressive speed gains on the Power PC, but
that's because 680X0 programs are emulated rather than directly executed by the
CPU. Native applications for the Power PC supposedly run quite a bit faster
than Mac apps. Your teacher probably tried to run Mac apps on his machine; if
he tries some native apps he'll probably be a great deal more impressed.
Personally, I'm waiting to see how well Intel-based apps run on the PPC. <g>
