I agree, I think the SPA and other anti-piracy groups resort to flimsy statistics when they claim that piracy amounts to $1 billion, etc. Unless a perfect method of protection existed, they can't know what the total sales would be. I'd agree that at least some of those people who pirate would purchase if that protection existed… whether that's 5 percent, 50 percent or 99 percent is a different story. Perhaps it's time to return to individualized serial numbers on disks. For 18 months or so when Syndesis got started, we did that with hopes of tracking piracy. At a minimum, I think it would be wise to enforce a "no serial number, no tech support or upgrade" policy. I should note that we've never had any form of copy protection on InterChange.
