The Rainbow dongle is a supposedly a pure pass-thru that should not affect any other hardware devices on the PC's parallel port. As for software-only solutions, I think they are easier to crack than hardware-based dongles. And there's plenty of leeway with this hardware dongle, for example… with 56 separate magic number RAM locations inside, it's possible to ship extra programs on the disk with limited number of executions. For example, we could deliver a Wavefront converter that would run just ten times, and after that trial demo period, you'd need to call us for a key to activate the dongle for unlimited use.
