In a way, I agree with you. However, the original CD-I was underpowered and the development tools were expensive and somewhat cumbersome to use. A few enhancements to the CD32, like an extra MB of Fast RAM and possibly a faster processor, would greatly increase the performance. For Philips, I don't think making the CD32 compliant with CD-I titles is worth it. Maybe a trade-in program could be used? If Philips gets the technology, hopefully the will just license the chipset to whomever wants it.
