#Still in Business
According to press announcments from Commodore International and other
sources, all the Commodore Europe companies still in operation
(Commodore UK, Commodore GMBH, Commodore France, etc.), are wholly
owned companies and is still selling Amiga products from existing
stock.
The following statments are based on rumors:
As you may have heard, Samsung, a Korean electronics conglomerate, is
supposedly in final negotiations to purchase the Amiga technology. A
court date has been set for May 31st, in the Bahamas, if a purchasing
settlement is not reached between the trustees and liquidators of
Commodore and Samsung. If the deal falls through, other parties are
petitioning the court to purchase the technology.
Samsung has a lot to gain if a deal can be negotiated. The technology
could be used in interactive, multimedia, "set-top boxes" in a cable
television network. Samsung would have almost instant access to the
European market via the wholly owned Commodore companies, which will
be used as distribution and marketing centers. Samsung could
immediately grant licenses to interested companies who wish to
manufacture Amiga A4000 or A1200 "clones".
