Don, You should speak with John T. about the MAX. I'm don't want to take sides on this issue. <g> I'm very happy with the PAR but I'd like to see some software enhancements. I'd like to be able to create a script file like Inscriber. And I can definitely see advantages to both systems. One approach can't do it all IMO. I love the fact that the framebuffer is built in on the PAR, but this might be considered a drawback to some depending on their application. It really just depends. For me the PAR works great. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again. Actually I think they should hire John T. to demo the unit. He's gotten very good results with his Beta System. Write rates of 4.5 at a resolution of 720×486. That Barracuda drive is pretty impressive. re: The Targa 2000. I see this as a good system for game testing and business presentations. I can't see any need for it personally however. I wouldn't mind seeing the PAR with an Audio option board with a seperate drive. But I think you're pushing too much data for both. I bet Comdex was pretty interesting. Video people wandering around Comdex. That's pretty funny. <g> About as curious as Computer people walking around NAB. <g> So how was the battle raging for the P5 crowd? I'm really partial to the DEC Alpha series myself. The Wall Street Journal keeps saying that DEC is way over extened, which makes me nervous. Sounds like they're betting the bank on the AXP's. IBM is putting its weight, (what it has left) behind the PowerPC as is Apple. I really wonder about the processor and motherboard design battle, and how its all going to shake down. Personally I think I'll go with the DX-4 provided it works as advertised. But if 3DS is going to be optimised for the Pentium… well you know… its never simple.<g> I used to feel like I had a handle on it, but things are changing so fast now and pricing is so competitive. Maybe that's it, but creating confusion they figure they can get more for their product. Wrong! I had a high school friend from the bay area call up and ask how prices are down here, as he was going to be stopping in L.A. and he'd heard prices were better. I thought geez, don't make a special trip or anything. 🙂 BTW did you see anything resembling a thin screen SVGA that you could hook into a standard SVGA slot like a regular monitor, similar to a notebook monitor but seperate. I could really use one if it isn't too pricey. -JE
