Sounds like the people doing the demoing were poorly prepared, although I agree that the beta software is buggy and needs fixing. I have a MAX, and recorded 2700 frames yesterday with no hitch except one which relates to on-the-fly Q factoring with a particular set of images. I have reported this – it seems to be a regression bug from a few weeks ago. I think the output is excellent, and I find it hard to believe that a system getting 3.5-3.8 megs per second could have the same level jpeg compression as a system getting 4.6-4.8 write times, and 5.6-5.9 read times – which is what I'm getting. It is possible that the MAX software is not yet fully optimized, and that the q-factoring is conservative at this time… I really don't know for sure. I also recorded some live images, but the look I want for the peice is grainy and black and white, so I chose appropriate video material. I'll do other live recording later to see how good the quality is. The other bug in the software is that it won't run with my CD-ROM and Exabyte plugged in, but supposedly there's a fix on the way for that. John Tissavary (LUNA cie)
