"I spent a lot of time fixing/re-writing a lot of MAC's OS to make it have asyncronous I/O. Run PhotoShop on a Quadra 950 (33Mhz 040) and just rotate a 300mb image 90 degress off the scratch disk using the built in SCSI-II drive. Now, do it with the A4000's pathetic built in IDE drive. You will find that even though the A4000 is 25Mhz (with memory more than 5 times slower) it accomplishes same exact feat a TWICE the speed of the 950. Now, that's a real world, useful example of EMPLANT's speed." And at the moment, unverifiable. I got only a short look at an Emplant and no chance to do anything serious with it. One of the many difficulties of the Amiga universe is poor distribution. There's no place I know of in the Chicago area where I can borrow or sit with an Emplant equipped system to see if your dramatic claims are true. Nor, to my knowledge, is there any Amiga dealer anywhere willing to sell me an Emplant, an accelerator and a 24-bit graphics card with the understanding that they will be returned if the system doesn't meet all your claims – particularly the one stated above. I've nothing against the Emplant, Jim. From what I know, it's a good product, but I've seen nothing personally to indicate that it is faster or more cost-effective solution than a standalone Macintosh. "A stock A4000 beats the Quadra 900 in all respects except for video speeds… What does a USED Quadra 900 go for these days?" I have no idea. The Quadra 900 is an obsolete machine. "Go buy an 840AV machine with 16 megs of memory. Now, spend the same amount on an A4000 system (40Mhz accelerator/video board/etc)… You WILL NOT be praising Macintosh when you run the systems side by side." As noted above, to equip the Amiga as you describe puts me in the position of paying before I try. Far as I know, there is no Amiga dealer in the Chicago area running a demo Amiga system such as you describe. I'm not spending several thousand dollars to find out if your claims are true. I already have Quadra 950's and 800's inhouse, Jim, so there's little reason for me to want to run in emulation mode. If an Emplant equipped Amiga is faster, fine, but I've already made the investment in Macintoshes. I would be interested in seeing some third-party reviews of the Emplant. I'm not a regular reader of the Amiga magazines and haven't seen an Emplant review in the ones I've read. Do you have an information package you send out which includes the reviews? Jerry
