Mike, I use Photoshop to create a tiled wallpaper. Start with a tile of your design. Then use the Offset filter at a setting of half the width in pixels and half the length in pixels. Then work on the design so that no seams are visible. Voila! A tile that can now be used as a seamfree pattern. As far as changing colors, in Photoshop it's done by using the Image Adjust Hue option and messing around til you get a color or combination that pleases you. –Heidi
