"point to a different locale catalog" imply you have to install the catalog
first right?
On MacOS System 7.5, just do a "Easy Install" (the standard config), you
already have the following languages/keyboard layout:
Australian
British
Danish
Danish Mac Plus
Dutch
Finnish
Flemish
French
French – numerical
French Canadian
German
ISO Canadian
Italian
Norwegian
Spanish
Swedish
Swiss French
Swiss German
U.S.
U.S. – System 6
You can switch between them in the "Keyboard" Control Panel or using command
key, no reboot!
Those are all "Roman Script" and you don't need to reinstall the OS to get it.
You can Drag and Drop them into/out of your "System" file when no application
is running, again no reboot!
Install a new "Script System" like Chinese or Arabic require install and
reboot. But after that you can switch between any script/language/keyboard
anytime. There is a keyboard menu in the menu bar for that perpose. You can
even type multiple script/language in the same line of text. This is nothing
new, System 6 (late 80's) have about 30 script/languages available include
Chinese, Japanese, Arabic and Hebrew.
