Hi, Dom,
can't say really as I'm not really into boxing at all. Nonetheless I stayed up
until 5.20 AM to watch the fight. I thought Schulz was looking good, but I was
surprised Foreman was really moving! The last fights (they showed a portrait of
him before the actual fight) he seemed to just stand there and hit his
opponents senseless if they were stupid enough to go near him. 😉
Well, I learned a bit about the difference between amateur (that's where Schulz
and his coach are coming from) and professional boxing – in an amateur fight
Schulz would have won because he landed more punches than Foreman (each landed
hit counts). In pro-boxing that doesn't seem to count as much as 'looking
good', and Foreman definitely was looking like he was chasing Schulz around the
ring… Schulz maybe was a bit too passive in several phases of the fight so I
think the judges can't be really blamed for declaring him the winner (114-114,
115-113, and 115-113 points I believe they had to be quite impressed with
Schulz' effort). After all, this is big business – and the real BIG fight of
the century has got to be between Foreman and Tyson before some nobody like
Schulz may become world champion…
