During teh first season the character development was not there. The actors portraying the roles didn't have a sense of WHO they were playing. It was only after a lot of time (episodes) that they started to click. Picard was loud and distant, Troi was mechanical, Riker lacked a personality, Data was a wind-up toy, Worf was a Klingon Nerd…the only one with something going on were Chief O'Brien & LaForge. It wasn't until the actors felt comfortable with each other, and with their roles that their social dynamic came into play. The same can be said for DS9, which I rarely watch now because I tape Voyager which plays opposite it. And yes, I _LIKE_ Voyager. My favorite of the lot is Babylon 5. I don't care what anyone says…it's refreshing and IMO better than the idealistic tight-wearing star-fleet do-gooders. <g> Don't get me wrong, I love ST, ST:TNG, VOYAGER, and to a degree DS9. But B5 is a great departure from the sterile world that those others have spun. -GreG
