#NT , flaky system blues
Ok, now I must de-flake my system….
NT boots and runs fine, but in my endless quest for the Tweak, I peeked at the
Event Log and low and behold, I see several errors. It says that a device
attempted to use COM3 and failed. Of course it failed, I don't have a com 3?
How can I find out what the offending device is ( Event log doesn't say) and
fix it, plus find out why it's even looking at "Com 3".
I'm system flake and WFWG 3.11 induced laziness has a lot to do with it.
In a DOS boot, I see that my Com driver ( TurboCom) assigns an IRQ to my
nonexistent com 3, (and it says it has a 16650 UART!), and it also says that I
have a com 4, but it can't tell what kind of UART it has,.
You're absolutely correct. Win NT is going to force me (and the rest of us with
flaky systems) to get out act together.
Except for the fact that I may actually have a Com 3 that I don't know about (
on the motherboard???) What do you think I could do to remedy this flakiness?
Thanks in advance
