Tony, Your friend's Amiga4000/040 ought to have OS 2.04 or later already. If so, he has (though he might not have enabled it) a program in the OS called CrossDOS. This program is installed so that it is set up at boot-up, and once started, the Amiga drive can be addressed as DF0: (reads and writes native Amiga format) or as PC0: (reads and writes MSDOS 720K format.) If his floppyis a HD Amiga drive, then he can read or write HD MSDOS formats as well. Check to make sure his CrossDOS is working. Then, download AutoPilot from AmigaVendor – AP.LHA. It is a CompuServe navigation program, a bit like TAPCIS or OZCIS, but with Amiga features. Most of us think it is absolutely wonderful. Your download will be a demo version of the software, which only works for Email and the Amiga forums, but it can be registered online, and then it can access all standard forums on CompuServe – as many as you wish. Once you have downloaded the archive – and LHA138.RUN from AmigaUser, Archivers Library – just put them on a disk and take them to your friend. Have him read them to his Amiga by using PC0: for the name of the drive. It works equally well with binary or text files. —Betty
