– if you don't do DTP with 100megs or more of fonts or video works or have
loads of games HD installed you don't actually NEED that much HD space –
contrary to, for example, Windows 95 which needs about 50 megs ALONE! One of
the main advantages of the Amiga has always been that it doesn't waste your
valuable resources (RAM, disk space, even display space – what needs 800×600 on
a Windows PC fits comfortably on an Amiga 640×512 screen…) – the OS needs
only about 5 megs on your HD – that's the amount MS DOS needs without any
Windows stuff at the moment – Win95 see above. The average Windows app needs
between 10 and 25 megs HD space and 8 megs of RAM, software development (like
C++) needs up to 100megs HD and at least 16 megs RAM. Amiga programs always
have made do with MUCH less (imagine a Windows PC with 2 megs of RAM and a
120meg HD) and I hope this 'slick' programming will hold for the future.
