Hi Chuck,
Even though a couple of points here may be redundant, you expressed a
need to form a consensus by hearing the same requests from a number of users.
I agree that this is the best way to handle this or else you'll have 34, 362
opinions of which direction the Flyer interface should be taken.
So here goes.
I am in agreement with the others that have mentioned the absolute
necessity of having the ability to control the audio levels (make changes)
within a clip. Such a function could be contained in the fine tune menu. I
suppose there are several way to handle the setting up of level changes. The
way that I visualize it is by seeing the actual waveform of the audio on a time
line affair. ( I know, there are those words again (TIME LINE)) Sorry !!!
Anyhow, level control could be achieved by highlighting a section of the
waveform and assigning it a level ( 0 to 100%). Now keep in mind that it would
be ( 0 to 100%) of the master level control. ( The one we have now). So, by
using this method several level changes could be made within any given clip (A
or A/V). You would also want a restore button in order to bring back the levels
to their original state. If the Engineers can't handle that method how about a
key frame affair, similar to the way that envelopes are handled in Lightwave.
Not quite as fancy, but still functional.
In many of my productions I use needle drop music. They are almost
never long enough for my requirements so I usually end up doing a (Copy and
Paste) of a couple of the middle measures of the tune to make it long enough. I
have always (since 1969) taken pride in my ability to precisely edit on the
beat for an audibly seamless edit. Trying to do the same now on the Flyer makes
me feel like I'm loosing my touch. I feel what is needed is the ability to
'Edit the Waveform" in the form of Cut, Copy, Paste, Delete, and Insert. Again,
I mention having the ability to "See the Waveform". Anyone that has edited
audio in this fashon can testify to its capabilities for a high degree of
accuracy. I realize that this type of function would be usable on the audio
only clips.
What is also needed is the ability to permanently attach an audio only
clip to a video only clip. (making it an A/V clip). When I do a Corporate logo
animation, it is usually coupled with some theme music. It would be nice if the
two (audio clip + video clip) could be made one (A/V clip) in order to prevent
re-tweaking each time I use it.
One more thing. How about a hot key function that would automatically
butt an audio clip against another. In other words you could highlight an audio
clip (clip2), hit an F10, click on a second audio clip (clip1) and it would
automatically set the offset of (clip2) to whatever the length of (clip1) is.
No muss, No fuss, and No having to bring up a clips control panel, so you can
read its duration, so you can write that down, so you can bring up another
clips control panel, so you can set its offset. Get it ?
Thanks for your attention. P.S. I also vote for VU type meters for
setting input levels.
