TBC stands for Time Base Corrector, a fun little piecs of hardware which
cleans up jitters in video tape play-back.
It is required for quality rotoscoping from tape. It will improve your
frame-by-frame animation.
It is highly recommended for an edit suite.
There are many options for TBCs these days, from boards that fit in a slot
in your PC, to stand alone rack-mount units. Some have color control, frame
grab, field grab, etc. Others do nothing but correct time base errors.
Prices range from $500 for the PC boards to $5,000 for dual TBCs that make
you coffee when you are editing late into the night!
