Yea. I kept the Magni OEM genlock card that GVP bundled with VideoDirector
1.0 (modified to accept Curtain Call and genlock scripts) and Curtain Call
plus PrimeTime, which is a DOS CG. Nice CG. In video overlay mode the card
outputs RGB at NTSC rates which new monitors can't handle. So I picked up a
used Sony 1402. It syncs at NTSC rates. Works well. Turns out there's a
bug in VD so that it won't adjust post-roll. VD thinks they know where the
bug is and how to correct it. But BOTTOM LINE, I've been out $500 plus $140
for the monitor and I don't have a functioning cuts only linear editing
system as of now. What are we, about two months?
Oh, the genlock is based on the ET4000 chip and it outputs at only 60Hz
vertical refresh (I called Magni and they're looking into the driver … I
haven't heard anything from them in over a month so this reminds me it's
time to call again). Since it replaces the video card this means when I'm
using the PC for other programs I have to tolerate horrible screen flicker.
An issue long solved in all video cards.
Not so swift I think. Electronic Mailbox gave me a month to decided, I
decided at the end of the month that the wrinkles could be worked out ….
but now at two months I don't think so. I'm not very happy with this setup.
I'm still in the process of putting together my first video but with the
post-roll screwed up I often end up with unintended transitions from one
clip to another.
You know, I call Electronic Mailbox saying I'm new to this and so what
should I start out with given 'this' is what I'd like to do? They recommend
the GVP Personal Suite Plus package at $499 and here I am two months later
with a negative experience. I think we know the reason this package was
sold at a reduced price and why GVP went out of business. My understanding
is that Magni's cards are good, but …
