Ron,
There are dedicated sound-board/software combinations that many pros use, on of
the most popular is made by a company called digi-designs. However, previously
here on this forum, some folks have said that a product called SAW, which works
with a variety of consumer level sound cards does a good job for the price,
circa $600 from what I recall. The folks that make SAW have a forum here on
Compuserve and while I don't recall the name of the forum, a "find saw" from
the forum prompt will probably find it.
Compressing data does not have to reduce the quality, it simply finds patterns
that can be reduced to formulas.
