Both can do PCM audio. And both can be controlled by VD. The Vdeck can often be found used for $800-1000. Partly for this reason that's the direction I went. > HI 8 tape will not hold up during the editing process Not true. Seems many think the bigger size of VHS/SVHS means it's more durable. I don't see any evidence of that based on user comments of both … or my use to date. > Non-Linear will be cheaper and of better quality in about a year or two I agree. It will take a combination of good hi rez PCI capture cards and low cost multi-GB hd's to put this in reach of us comsumers.
