Is there any sort of info about upgrades available for this card (can it be
upgraded/traded in for a PPC upgrade card?) And, do I need any sort of software
drivers to run the card (I look to get the same performance with or without the
card installed, so I assume it needs some sort of driver.)
QuadControl v2.3 is needed to activate the integrated 128K level 2 cache. You
can get this CDEV from DayStar's software library. GO MACAVEN, Section 6:
DayStar Digital.
The Quad 040 can be traded in for credit toward a PowerPro 601, DayStar's
PowerPC upgrade for the Quadra 650/700/800/900/950 and Centris 650. The Trade
Up price for the 100 MHz PowerPro 601 is $933. This boardhas a 1MB level 2
cache and exclusively uses the Mac's system board memory. Using native 601 code
applications allows it to run about four times as fast as your Quadra 650 with
its 680×0 apps!
