However, it can also be accomplished with 3D particle systems. Actually, I
_was_ thinking about smoke. The only problem with the file-based (as opposed
to API based) particle implementation in a 3D rendering system is that the
scenes get _very_ large _very_ fast. For example, I'm working on a snow/rain
particle system at the moment, and to get a nice 'looping' snowstorm effect
over a 12 x 12 x 12 unit area took about 2-3k polygons. That was a very basic
and preliminary test, but you get the idea, right?
Anyways, the effects you mentioned are 'do-able', and I'll really consider the
smoke… Great suggestions. Thanks for your input!
