Just to keep this ball rolling, I have a few more questions for the crowd. How does one determine the level of "usefulness" that marks the point at which one is obligated to pay the shareware developer? Are a series of niggling complaints such as "It doesn't work with my favorite PD program" legitimate reasons for not sending payment? After all, could you use the same excuse against a commercial program, after you bought it? What if might find the program useful, but do not agree to their terms? What if I wrote an editor, and asked for $149.95 if you found it useful? (P.S. I paid more than that for my MS-DOS editor. I use 'ed' and the PD MicroEmacs on the Amiga. By reading this notice, you hereby agree to it. Send me $100 if you find this useful. Send me $200 if you ever talk about it in a commercial environment.)
