Yep, Brian, the 6551 is strictly async. I have developed some async code
on an IBM ARTIC co-processor last year. That board supports four Zilog
SIO chips which are dual USARTs. Those chips contain specific options to
support SDLC and BSC. Well, maybe *someone* will market an Amiga sync
adapter someday.
