Don't sell the general public short. MOST people are capable of ingesting a new technology without blinking an eye. In fact, if anything, people who don't know that their microwaves or whatever are controlled by computers don't care and wouldn't be the least bit impressed or intimidated if they knew. We techies, who appreciate the signifigance of the technology, can go into a gee-whiz frenzy over these things. My mother-in-law was a true computer hater. Thought computers were the instruments of evil, bound to de-humanize the world. We brought an Amiga up to her when we visited for a week, sat her down in from of Shanghai and had to pry her away from the machine when we left. She asked a lot of questions during that time and eventually went out on her own and took a computer course at the local library. "They used a Macintosh. The computer was SO slow!" was her response.
