You've hit the nail on the head. "allow third-party stero[sic] companies to license the technology"… Hopefully Commodore has learned something from Sony. Sony "invented" the VCR with beta format. The inferior VHS format took over because Sony would not license beta to competitors soon enough to keep the market. My understanding is that the delay in CD-I has been due to a) the current price point of the proposed technology and b) lack of a commitment from the software vendors. Commodore: a) owns the Amiga technology and b) has 5 years of third party software development experience on the platform with massive pressure from those developers to MARKET the Amiga technology.
