Hmm… that sounds like the "industrial" unit pricing, perhaps. The consumer versions are (or were, a year or so back was the last I kept up with the price) supposed to be sold at like $999… no matter what the actual cost was. Philips themselves were going to underwrite some of the price in order to get early buyers. Since then, RAM and CDROM drives have gone down $$-wise, so I suppose CD-I could go even cheaper if they have to. And since players and chips/etc have been shipping for several months now, pricing should go down even more. Within a year the price was planned to drop to the $500 range, and continue downward as the market built up. One good thing about either home unit is this: if they sell well, CDROM drive prices should really come down. I'm looking forward to that! – kev
