Mark, That's a really good question. I guess one answer is: by having the computer accessing all data from the CDROM, you are also able to place the program and index on the disc…. readable at any time. Otherwise a home player would need a disk drive (or a HD slot – grin) to hold all that needed info for any disc application. Now, if you had TWO CDROM drives…. ah, what an idea! Maybe one day when those things get cheap, eh? One related, tho minor, thing is this btw: interactive CDROM programs usually preload sound/video files before the user takes a decision branch… the idea is to play the loaded stuff while the relatively slow CDROM drive seeks to another position and reads in more data. This gives the illusion of continuity to the user (something is always happening). best – kev
