John, That's a darned nice/clever idea about using the serial port that way. So even without an expanded system, ANY computer brand owner could make use of the info from his player. Quick, get a patent! <grin> And then convince the player-makers! BTW, long ago I read an article that said Sony was pushing CD-A player makers to include a hidden plug just for hooking it up to a CD-I/whatever adapter. Anybody seen evidence of this? CD-A normally isn't compatible… but only because CDROM requires more stringent error correction circuitry… and supposedly raw signals could be fed into the right decoder chips. ?
