David- Beta lost the war because of inferior marketing, not licensing the format to a lot of other firms (thereby creating a standard) and because there initial format (Beta I) only had a one-hour record time. It's generally acknowledged that Beta's quality was a little better than VHS, but not enough to make the difference. Now, ED Beta…that's different. Me, I'm into laser disks now, and use an old Sony SL900 Beta and a Mitsubishi HS-U80 VHS machine. Tim
