Karl – periodical guides are available on cdrom now (our local NCSU library
has a dozen PC's set up with them and printers for searching, for example).
Perhaps you're right: one day we'll see these for sale in all bookstores,
for use as a non-multimedia app in a standalone player.
You're right about chambers of commerce… under DVI at least, one of the
first demos was of a Washington DC tour… opens with a scanning view of
the city from the air, and you click on the area you're interested in. For
example, clicking on the Lincoln Memorial brings up an inside view and the
Gettysburg speech is read to you, etc.
Of course, these things had better be _cheap_ <grin>. I don't think i'd
spend $30 for a disc like this, myself. But then, I'm cheap too ;-).
