I believe that at least one modern sci-fi novel ("Davids Sling" by Marc Steigler [sp?]) is also out in a "hyper-text" version (still pictures of technology and the ability to "read" the book from more than one POV). Of course, I think you need a MAC or a PClone to read it. IMHO, I think that anything written to take advantage of the new capabilities would really stretch the medium. Imagine being able to read a book from the POV of several different protagonists and see objects as they would have. It _would_ be considerably more difficult to create a book that could be read in several different ways, but it could bring new meaning to the word "collaboration". Instead of the authors switching back and forth, as is currently done, each writer could develop their story line from one POV (with frequent or infrequent meetings of characters as the plot dictated). Of course there might have to be some sort of coordination as to when the characters did meet … but that could be easily handled. Look at the "Thieves World" collections by Aspirin and Lynn.
